Facebook or Twiiter, Which is Which?

Are you used to work with the latest social networking sites? If you do, what is the best for you? Which among them is the most helpful? Which of them do you prefer to use?

Facebook or Twitter? Let us find out which between the two is the best of the best.

Facebook is a oicial networking site  and website launched in February 2004, operated and privately owned by Facebook, Inc. As of January 2011, Facebook has more than 600 million active users. Users may create a personal profile, add other users as friends, and exchange messages, including automatic notifications when they update their profile. Facebook users must register before using the site. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics. The name of the service stems from the colloquial name for the book given to students at the start of the academic year by university administrations in the United States to help students get to know each other better. Facebook allows any users who declare themselves to be at least 13 years old to become registered users of the website.

Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow computer science students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. The website’s membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy League, and Stanford University. It gradually added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school students, and, finally, to anyone aged 13 and over, but based on ConsumersReports.org on May 2011, there are 7.5 million children under 13 with accounts, violating the site’s terms.

A January 2009 Compete.com study ranked Facebook as the most used social networking service by worldwide monthly active users, followed byMySpaceEntertainment Weekly included the site on its end-of-the-decade “best-of” list, saying, “How on earth did we stalk our exes, remember our co-workers’ birthdays, bug our friends, and play a rousing game of Scarbulous before Facebook?” Quantcast estimates Facebook has 138.9 million monthly unique U.S. visitors in May 2011. According to Social Media Today, in April 2010 an estimated 41.6% of the U.S. population had a Facebook account.Nevertheless, Facebook’s market growth started to stall in some regions, with the site losing 7 million active users in the United States and Canada in May 2011. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook

Those are the literal meanings of facebook. Facebook offers many applications which entertained the users. It also helps people interact even though they are far from each other. It also lets you express your emotions towards a person, a thing, an issue or an event. When it comes to school projects or assignments, it provides information that will surely give you an idea or a background on a specific topic. On the other hand, Facebook has its negative effects on us. We usually accept friends who are not that familiar to us and after having conversations to those persons, we normally hang out without even knowing that he or she has a bad intention to you. That simply shows how grateful yet harmful facebook is.

After talking about facebook, let us now move on to the next social networking site which is twitter.

Twitter is a website, owned and operated by Twitter Inc., which offers a social networking and microblogging service, enabling its users to send and read messages called tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters displayed on the user’s profile page.

The website is based in San Francisco. Twitter also has servers and offices in San Antonio and Boston. Twitter, Inc. was originally incorporated in California, but as of 2011 is incorporated in Delaware.

Twitter was produced in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and launched in July. Since then Twitter has gained popularity worldwide and is estimated to have 200 million users, generating 200 million tweets a day and handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day.It is sometimes described as the “SMS of the Internet.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter

Twitter means a lot to the persons who like to share the happenings in their lives. It is a way in which they update others about their latest activities. Artists, Politicians, Businessmen, Businesswomen, students and others are the main users of this site. Like Facebook, it helps people interact with each other. Yet, it has negative effects to us just like some false tweets which lead to gossips and rumors that really affect a person involve in the wrong tweet.

Both sites have its negative and positive effects. And it’s up to us, users, to make use of them wisely. We are the rulers of our lives and those social networking sites are just things created to make our lives more meaningful. Always bear in mind that we are thankful to have them for we can freely use it yet we must not abusively work on them. Facebook or twitter, which is which?

The Brighter Side of Computers to Teenagers

A computer is a programmable machine designed to sequentially and automatically carry out a sequence of arithmetic or logical operations. The particular sequence of operations can be changed readily, allowing the computer to solve more than one kind of problem.
Conventionally a computer consists of some form of memory for data storage, at least one element that carries out arithmetic and logic operations, and a sequencing and control element that can change the order of operations based on the information that is stored. Peripheral devices allow information to be entered from an external source, and allow the results of operations to be sent out.
A computer’s processing unit executes series of instructions that make it read, manipulate and then store data. Conditional instructions change the sequence of instructions as a function of the current state of the machine or its environment.
The first electronic computers were developed in the mid-20th century (1940–1945). Originally, they were the size of a large room, consuming as much power as several hundred modern personal computers (PCs).
Modern computers based on integrated circuits are millions to billions of times more capable than the early machines, and occupy a fraction of the space. Simple computers are small enough to fit into mobile devices, and mobile computers can be powered by small batteries. Personal computers in their various forms are icons of the Information Age and are what most people think of as “computers”. However, the embedded computers found in many devices from mp3 players to fighter aircraft and from toys to industrial robots are the most numerous. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer

Computer plays a big role on the lives of students. It is a type of technology that helps students do their assignments easily. It also serves as a tutorial class for it offers sample exercises that improve the knowledge of students in a particular subject area or lesson. There are millions of points of view on the topics that a student researches. Some are nasty and some are good. That gives a good chance for teenagers to compare and contrast and learn to make up their mind, but not fully receive what people say. In addition to that, computers entertain students by the online games that they make. And Lastly, computers build an attitude of being an independent student.

See how useful computers are. Yet all those things are just the advantages and you must know the disadvantages of it so that you can prevent the negative effects that it may bring. It is not bad to use computers at all yet you must know firsthand their positive and negative effects. In this way, we can help the future generation to have a better future and understanding on computers. Let’s just simply think before we act.

Love and Time

Once upon a time, there was an island where all the feelings lived: Happiness, Sadness, Knowledge, and all of the others, including Love. One day it was announced to the feelings that the island would sink, so all constructed boats and left. Except for Love.

Love was the only one who stayed. Love wanted to hold out until the last possible moment.

When the island had almost sunk, Love decided to ask for help.

Richness was passing by Love in a grand boat. Love said,
“Richness, can you take me with you?”
Richness answered, “No, I can’t. There is a lot of gold and silver in my boat. There is no place here for you.”

Love decided to ask Vanity who was also passing by in a beautiful vessel. “Vanity, please help me!”
“I can’t help you, Love. You are all wet and might damage my boat,” Vanity answered.

Sadness was close by so Love asked, “Sadness, let me go with you.”
“Oh . . . Love, I am so sad that I need to be by myself!”

Happiness passed by Love, too, but she was so happy that she did not even hear when Love called her.

Suddenly, there was a voice, “Come, Love, I will take you.” It was an elder. So blessed and overjoyed, Love even forgot to ask the elder where they were going. When they arrived at dry land, the elder went her own way. Realizing how much was owed the elder,

Love asked Knowledge, another elder, “Who Helped me?”
“It was Time,” Knowledge answered.
“Time?” asked Love. “But why did Time help me?”
Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and answered, “Because only Time is capable of understanding how valuable Love is.”

Kilos Kabataan Para sa Kalikasan

Students all over the city specifically the third and fourth year students as well as the college students, attended the K4K, Kilos Kabataan para sa Kalikasan. It was a seminar on how we can protect our environment. The project was planned and managed by our city mayor, Mr. Edward S. Hagedorn with his councilors as well as our vice mayor, Mr. Lucilo Bayron. It was a great honor to be one of the students who joint there. It was held last January 26, 2009 at the Puerto Princesa City Coliseum.

Since, I am a second year student I should not belong their but because of being a dance troupe member, I was luckily chosen as one of the members to perform an intermission number.

The program started at exactly 1:30 in the afternoon and we are the first school to perform, after a few minutes our first speaker discussed to us the “Global Warming”, which is very harmful now a days. She gave us tips on how we can prevent from having this problem. I was glad to know these things, I already have an idea when it comes to these things but I realized that it was different from mine. Afterwards, selected students from another school presented their number and then trivia was given to us by the hosts which are my schoolmates, Yona Mahilum abd Ralph Cabasal.

A few minutes past, our second speaker came and he discussed about “Swift Justice”. It was a way on how we can build or make global solutions. Actually, I found it hard to relate on the topic because I was a bit bored already but then, I kept on listening and putting those things on my mind. Some of them were laws of the Philippines for our speaker at that time was a lawyer.

Lastly, I heard him. I heard our city mayor on how he gave his countrymen specifically the students the solutions to protect our mother earth. It was my first time to join an activity where our mayor is the speaker. I was happy because before he ended his service as a mayor, he tried his best to reunite the youth on how we can make our environment better and safe from any danger.

After the seminar, I realized that I can do many things reagarding to the biggest problem that we are facing right now. I should start to do it now and not tomorrow. I should say “Kilos Kabataan Para sa Kalikasan”.

2nd Year Students are getting ready for the RSAT.

The second year students are preparing for the Regional Secondary Achievement Test(RSAT). It has a memorandum from the DepEd that we should have saturday classes in order to pass the said exam. It is composed of Mathematics, Science, English, Filipino, MAPEH and Araling Panlipunan or the Social Studies.
In our school, it is a part of our final grades, actually, 30% of our final grades will be coming from this test, Since our school is a Science curriculum School, we should beat the other public as well as the private schools.
Based on my observation, our teachers are also giving their full efforts just to give us the possible lessons that might be included in the exam.
We are very fortunate because we are learning things that we supposed to tackle when we become third years. Some of the lessons are hard to pick up but with the help of our teachers, some of them got easier.
Some of my classmates keep on telling me that when the RSAT day comes, we will get full due to the foods that we are going to eat yet I told them it is not the reason why we are here, “passing the exam” is our main goal.
I guess my classmates and I are ready for the exam and I am pretty sure that with the help of our teachers and parents as well as Jesus Christ, we can get high scores.

Tulungan natin an gating bayan.

Uses of cellphones based on my opinion

Is your cellphone useful to you? Do you use it regularly? or is it only for display?

My cellphone serves as my bestfriend  for when I’m alone it makes me smile by simply texting my friends. As a leader in our group I should inform all my members on what they are going to do and bring in an activity so I use my cellphones in informing them but always remember that if you have cellphone and it doesn’t have load you can’t use it.

You can also use your cellphone for entertainment by playing games that you want. If your cellphones have cameras you can use it for documenting an activity or event by easily taking pictures and putting captions on it. You can also surf the net in your cellphones by that you can answer your assignments in an affordable way you don’t have to go to the internet shops and surf the net.

You can have a clear communication by using your cellphones just only load your cellphones and go to a place that has a high signal.

These are some  examples of  cellphones:

-It is not just a camp-

Camp Blog 2009 is not just an ordinary camp for me because I learned a lot of things here in which I will surely use in the future and even today. This camp helped me to widened my knowledge in blogging.

At first, I was expecting that this camp will make us bored for having plenaries, discussions and etc. everyday but when the camp started my expectations turned into a fun and exciting camp. Actually! my favorite part of the workshop is the making and the critiquing of our blog sites for it helped us to know the things that we need to improve.

May 28,2009- it was the first time that I experienced an exhibit like that. I wish that time will come that we will be having a part II. I enjoyed in explaining the objectives and the content of my blog to the public. Although some of the students were unapproachable our group tried our best to get their attentions as well as there trusts in our blog sites.

We can’t deny the fact that we need to say goodbye to our fellow participants that became close to our hearts. Although we say goodbye to each other it doesn’t mean that it is the final time that we will see each other. We decided to communicate through our blogs in order to don’t miss each other too much.

Thank you very much to CICT, PAC and everyone. The first Camp Blog is a successful one. I know that the second camp will be much better but I think the first is the most memorable of the rest of the camps that they will be conducting.

I will miss you guys.

This is Queenie Lara C. Leoncio. The youngest of all the participants, hoping that we are going to see each other in the next Camp blog.
